Galle Fort

Galle Fort is situated in the Bay of Galle. First constructed by the Portugese in 1588, the Dutch began extensive fortification works to Fort from 1649. Thanks to the efforts of the Sri Lankan Government, Galle Fort is still in excellent condition. It is a popular tourist attraction.

 

Much of the Galle Fort property dates back to late 1600's when it was ruled by the Dutch and so retains a Dutch colonial style.
